Healthy Habits Your Teenage Should Have

Making your teen develop healthy habits and routines is very important. This is what is going to ensure a healthy lifestyle for them as they enter adulthood. If you’re teen has a routine which is centered on their healthy it will make them physically better and will also help in improving their performance at school. Just a tweak in the lifestyle will help them to lead a healthy life.

Start by making sure that your teen has breakfast before school everyday. Sometimes teens get extremely tempted to skip it but then everyone knows that it is the most important meal of the day, hence it shouldn’t be skipped. This can actually help in bringing about a negative effect on their academic performance since breakfast is the meal of the day which provides their bodies with calories and nutrition which helps the body to function properly. It helps the teens concentrate better in school.

Make sure that they follow the food pyramid. This pyramid is an illustration which helps in making them aware of the need of the body. It tells a person how many of each of the food groups the person should consume which is going to help in maximizing health. Following the food pyramid also helps in reducing the risk of obesity at their age.

Your teen also needs to stay active all the time. They don’t really have to join cheerleading or the football team. All they need are tiny little changes in their routine like walking to school or using a bike and all this actually helps in ensuring that they remain quite healthy. This again improves the overall healthy and it also reduces any risk of obesity. Staying active also helps them to stay more focused in school and during other activities.

During the teen years the kids usually pick up on bad habits like drinking or smoking but then this should really be avoided. There are various reasons for this; the first is that having alcohol at the teen age is against the law. The second, being the damage to the liver which they might bring upon by drinking and to the lung by smoking. If they manage to avoid these behaviors then they can stay healthy. Finally you need to make sure that your teen gets ample amounts of sleep. A complete 8 hours of sleep is necessary for them.

The Diet Guide for a Diabetic

Diabetes is actually a very complicated disease and sometimes the information which you get regarding this is quite contradictory and it can even be hard to understand in some cases. But then every expert agrees on one thing and that is that exercise as well as diets will help you to keep it under control and also lessen the toll that it has on the body.
Since you are a diabetic you need to love healthy foods. Whole grains, fruits, lean proteins, healthy fats and vegetables should be your best friend. They will help your body in performing efficiently.

Also since you are a diabetic then you need to make sure that you track the amount of carbohydrate you take in plus you need to keep in mind that not all carbohydrates are created equally. The processed grains which you get in the commercial breads or the baked good and also white rice usually have a higher content of sugar and hence this causes your blood glucose level to rise.

Your main goal should be to avoid all the lows as well as the highs which are accompanied by a diet of high carbs.
Vegetables as well as fruits usually have a huge range of nutrients which are critical. Also white juices contain those nutrients but then they don’t have the dietary fiber which the body usually needs for digestion and sometimes they have added sugar as well. If you are left with a choice of choosing between the juice and the entire fruit or vegetable then you should choose the whole vegetable or fruit.

Now people who are diabetics can’t convert the energy from the foods which usually causes an excess buildup inn your blood stream which is in the form of triglycerides as well as cholesterol.

Now this build up can again cause heart as well as circulatory issues and sometimes it also causes kidney, vision and liver problems. Hence if you want to keep the level of cholesterol down then you have to prevent all these saturated fats by simply having lean meats or fish or other vegetarian proteins like tofu.

Finally you need to keep in mind that the low fat dairy products usually have quite a low glycol load and they have a high source of protein and hence when you calculate your daily total of carbs this should be included.

Health Tips for the Elderly

Staying healthy when you have aged is quite a hard thing to do. But it is extremely important. Staying fit for the elderly is quite hard because they want to eat as well as drink like they did when they were young. It isn’t really possible. Sometimes it might get very difficult to accept the reality that changes have to be made.

First of all you need to realize that your energy levels will change. Since the body metabolism will slow down, your energy will reduce as well. Hence you will need fewer calories and you will also start to gain weight. So you will have to choose an intake of calories according to the level of your activities. You could use a trial and error method to see which is right. The best thing would be to have a journal for your food and hence you get to keep your own accounts of calories.

When you are old, you will find that you require a lot more fiber. But make sure that you don’t do this at one go. Increase the intake of fiber slowly. You can have foods like oatmeal, split pea, steamed vegetables and so on. Make sure that the portions are small and that you have a variety so that you will enjoy eating it and not get bored. Also make sure that you do not have much fat.

You also need to keep a check on your sugar intake. Along with salt and carb intake as well. Although, nothing is really off limits till your doctor says so. It doesn’t mean that you can have any amount you want to. You need to keep your cholesterol level and your blood pressure level normal. So you need to eat keeping all of that in mind.

Staying hydrated is very important for people of all ages. But when you are old you will find that it is all the more important. Have a lot of liquids. You can even try and have health drinks. These are really good for your body. Gatorade, herbal teas and so on are a must for the elderly.

Finally make sure that you have your daily calcium and vitamin D supplements. But you need to ask your nutritionist or your doctor about the dosage of these supplements before you take them.

If you follow the above advice you will hopefully have a long and prosperous life!

Health and Wellness – How to Live Longer by Eating!

We as humans have developed a lot; we aspire to be a more civilized race, even better than our forefathers were. The aspiration to make our lives better and even more effective, we have in turn complicated it!

And now in turn to solve the complications, we are striving to make simpler. The end result? It has taken a heavy toll on our health – processed and fast-foods being the main villains of all.

The exercise to achieve more in less time has led us to a race where we are ready to sacrifice for a ‘better’ lifestyle. But what we cannot seem to comprehend is the fact that without good health, how can we even think of enjoying our life? There is the paradox!

Combating Eating Disorders

Of recent, there has been a huge outcry over waif-thin models; purists and general people alike cannot see any reason to allow such things happening in the society, which has led such people in the profession to being anorexic.

Anorexia is the most frightening eating disorder to have affected a lot of people in our society today, including the young girls. Naturally, what they fail to decipher is that all that shines is not gold.

The models are heavily made-up to look attractive. Otherwise, they all suffer from weak bones, alarmingly failing health, thinning hair and premature aging. It is natural for such things to happen just because humans are not attuned/built to do away with such small amounts of food (and therefore energy!).

It is time that these baseless myths and claims are quashed in front of the world and healthy eating is encouraged.
Eating makes you run; it makes you keep your body functioning normally. Of course, there is a limit on how much to eat and what to eat and that is what makes all the difference.

Most of us do not know what to eat. It also maybe the case where people are eating on time but at the same time consuming a lot of junk food – that will make them even more ill.

A diet laden with fresh fruits, vegetables and lot of fluids is bound to balance nutrition levels in your body. That is the importance of a balanced diet. Life is not worth living if your do have a good health. People have to learn to acknowledge that health is in fact – wealth!
