We all know that time of the year. The tinkling of bells, rapid purchasing of presents and wrapping paper and eating all sorts of delicious goodies everyday! Yes, I’m talking about the holiday season! When Christmas and New Year beckon, we have no choice but to answer its call! The average person does just a tad (?) bit too much celebration during this time of the year.
Now while this is all good for your mental health, this is definitely not the way to go if you’re trying to stay fit or keep off those extra pounds. So what do you do to stay fit during the holidays? Well, first off, if you’re in the habit of heading over to the gym in the evenings, when you’re done with most of your work for the day, then change it, immediately.
You know you won’t get time. Even if you have nothing planned for the evening, you are bound to have something scheduled for it, by afternoon! So get up early and work out! No one is going to make impromptu plans at six a.m., which is when you’re going to give your body that much needed work out!
If this does not suit you, then plan your work out days a week in advance and DON’T COMPROMISE! If you plan your work outs well in advance, you’ll have greater chances of sticking with the schedule because the chances of you missing out on the work out because of parties or other, similar get-togethers will be considerably narrowed down.
Another thing you need to do, in order to stay fit, is to cut down on your alcohol consumption. Did you know, that alcohol has, almost as many calories per gram as fat? And let’s face it, you never drink glasses and glasses of oil, but you do tend to get a tiny bit swayed in that department, when it comes to alcohol!
Eat smart and plan your cheat days well in advance! You know you’re going to give in to temptation on a few occasions at least, so instead of feeling guilty for it, just give it another name – a cheat day! But keep a gap of at least five or six days between these chat days. Also, when you’re eating, start off with the protein portion first and leave the carbs for the end, so you don’t have too much space for them. Do make sure you stay active.
When you’re going shopping, leg it to the mall, that way, you save up on gasoline too! Have fun and stay fit these holidays!
