Rivers Cuomo who is the front man for the famous band Weezer was hospitalized. This happened on a Sunday morning right after the tour bus which he was travelling on had crashed after slipping on an ice patch in New York City. He was tossed around in the lounge area which is in the back of the bus. Because of this the 40 year old guitarist and singer had gotten three ribs which were cracked and injured his legs (one) and also had other internal damages.
Now the singer’s wife as well as two years old were also on the bus with him but then they were not injured at all. Only Kyoko Cuomo, his wife had been tossed right outside of the top bunk of the tour bus and so the assistant of River’s called Sarah Kim. Kim had also managed to fracture two of her ribs and also a lower vertebra.
She was also rushed to a New York hospital with the front man. Karl Koch is the bands website owner as well as manager had posted accounts of the happenings on the sites right after he had reached the scene after a few minutes after the accident. According to him, it was because of the skills of the bus driver that the scene wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
He said that “This story would have been far more tragic if not for his actions.” The accident had apparently occurred after around 7:18 in the morning. The bus had slipped on black ice and then plowed right over a guardrail and feel 10 feet in a ravine which was muddy. According to Koch, everyone on the bus was “either terrified or injured or both”. The inside of the bus was in a complete mess with all the glasses smashed along with the plates and foods and clothes all over the place.
Cuomo was trapped in the bus and EMT’s needed to use the “Jaws of life” to help free him out. Both Cuomo as well as Kim’s condition are stable for the time being. Cuomo had been transferred to a larger facility and is now kept under very strict observation. Unfortunately because of the accident the bands December tour has been cancelled. Fans are hoping that this Weezer front man recovers very soon and can get back to the game as soon as possible.
